Captain Roberts Appreciation Page

Captain Sammy Roberts came to work for TIS in 1977 after serving eight years in the United States Army. He remained in the Army reserves until he reached full 30-year retirement as a Sergeant Major. While in the military Captain Roberts served as both the Military Police and a Drill Sergeant, and that training was always evident. He was the recipient of the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Second Award Air Medal, Second award Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal and Viet Nam Service Medal.

During Captain Roberts' tenure at TIS he watched the ownership change, the company go public and back private again, company officers come and go, and many more changes. He continued to calmly and efficiently manage a team of security officers. The current owner, Kathy McReynolds, reports, "I could never have bought and grown TIS without Captain Roberts. He was completely loyal to me and to TIS, and to be quite blunt, I simply did not have the expertise at that time to manage a security guard company without him. Not only were we co-workers for 26 years, but we have always been and continue to be friends. "

Captain Roberts' job included hiring, training, inspecting, disciplining and scheduling as many as 300 officers for up to 6,000 man hours a week, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. During most of his tenure he managed that feat without the help of scheduling software. For several years he had his instructor's license for training commissioned officers, and managed the TIS Academy.

Captain Roberts continues to be respected by TIS employees and customers. He is always perfectly groomed and carries himself with a quiet authority that well represented Texas Industrial Security.

In addition to Captain Roberts' dedication to Texas Industrial Security and the United States Army, he and his wife, Deborah, have taken in many foster children for several years. They adopted and raised three of those children. They were recently awarded foster Family of the Year by Catholic Charities.

Captain Roberts retired in 2009, but he will always be part of the TIS culture.

Named a Top Tarrant County Women-Owned Business since 1996.
